DIY recipes and Cooking DIY Recipes are new features making their very first appearance in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. In this guide, we'll explain what they're for and how to find them.

First of all, DIY recipes allow you to build tools, furniture, decorations, clothes and more. There are also DIY recipes that are seasonal, which means they are only accessible during a certain period of time. 

Then there are the Cooking DIY Recipes, available since the 2.0 update. Cooking DIY Recipes allow you to develop your culinary skills and knowledge in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. You can also eat them, use them as decoration or even give them as gifts to villagers. As mentioned above, cooked food can be eaten and has the same function as fruit: to give strength to break stones or lift trees. The Cooking DIY Recipes are very similar to the DIY recipes. However, they are yellow in color. 

* Please note: To unlock Cooking DIY Recipes, you must first purchase a kitchen. You'll need to progress through the story by helping Tom Nook with various tasks, receive 3 stars on your island, attend K.K. Slider's first concert and unlock the town hall. After these steps, you'll be able to head to the Nook Stop in the Resident Services building to purchase the Creation + Recipes for 2000 Nook Miles product, which will enable you to buy a DIY kitchen plan and unlock new recipes.

  • Check Nook Stop daily for new DIY recipes for fences
  • Looking for messages in bottles on the beach
  • Drop balloons with your slingshot 
  • Enter villagers' homes and talk to them when they're building something.
  • Talk to the villagers
  • Visiting mysterious islands (look on the beach)
  • Fishing or gathering resources
  • Send/receive plans from another player
  • Use Amiibo

* Tip: Remember to keep your replica DIY recipes, as they can be exchanged with other players! 

How to find Cooking DIY Recipes:

  • Buy from the Nook's Cranny 
  • Looking for messages in bottles on the beach
  • Drop balloons with your slingshot 
  • Enter villagers' homes and talk to them when they're building something.
  • Talk to the villagers
  • Fish
  • Buy turnips from Daisy Mae
  • Buy Brewster coffee several times 
  • Send/receive plans from another player

* You can buy ingredients from Leif when he visits your village. You can also find new ingredients when you visit a mysterious island.
