Buried Memories
In this Final Fantasy XVI walkthrough, we'll explain the full path of the "Buried Memories" quest from the Act I.
Head to the Ruins of Phoenix Gate Fort to begin a cinematic sequence. Move forward to pass the rubble. After the scene, go straight ahead to join the Fire Dominant.
Enter the basement and then descend into the underground ruins to open the next door. Head to the center of the area to fight Fallen Bugs. As you reach the bottom, Defense Nodes and Fallen Hunters will attack you. Defense Nodes fight like spellcasters, while Aberrations are similar to human enemies.
Once you've eliminated the enemies, open the door to find an Magicked Ash on the right. Continue forward to encounter new enemies. You'll find awhite treasure chest in the combat zone, which contains 50 gils and 5 Sharp Fangs.
Then go down the stairs to open the door. You'll arrive in a room with an enemy who can perform melee and ranged attacks. He'll also be able to launch a field of energy explosives, which you'll need to avoid.
Once the fight is over, go and open the treasure chest to obtain the The Favor of Wind (Gouge) accessory.
Open the door and take the Potion, go downstairs to find a High Potion. In the next room, you'll have to battle three bombs. These enemies are particularly dangerous when they're weak, as they'll be able to explode. You'll be able to see the explosion impact zone with an area on the floor.
After the fight, go through the next door to find a Potion. Advance to the center of the next area to activate an elevator. At the top, you'll find a Treasure Chest containing 1,200 gils.
Go through the door to fight another enemy accompanied by Defense Nodes. Eliminate the weaker enemies first to concentrate on the stronger one. A few enemies will also join the fight later on.
Then open the door to find a potion and new enemies. Be vigilant, as these enemies will call for reinforcements, including Bombs.
Once the fight is over, open the Treasure chest to obtain The Will of Wind (Rook's Gambit).
Go into the next room and pick up the High Potion. This is a good time to save before going through the door and fighting the Iron Giant.
The Iron Giant uses his sword to attack you, as well as part of his body. His first attack is a jump followed by a kick. One of his most common attacks is a sword thrust followed by a punch.
After a partial stagger, the Iron Giant will be able to retreat and launch a shockwave at you. Always switch to Deadly Embrace to gain extra attack time;
After the first Stagger, the Iron Giant will use Atomic Ray. His health bar turns purple and he becomes inactive. Your objective is to attack the Iron Giant until the purple bar disappears. If you fail to do so, the Atomic Ray will be triggered, and a large shockwave will cause you to lose many hit points. Finish the purple bar quickly, or run away if you can't avoid the attack.
By successfully interrupting Atomic Ray, the Iron Giant will be stunned, giving you time to attack. He recovers quickly and resumes a charge attack. Some of his combos will now include a third sweep, and you'll need to keep your distance when this happens.
The Iron Giant is not difficult to face, as long as you can counter and dodge his blows effectively. Completing the fight will give you 50 EXP, 100 ability points and 1,800 gils, 2 Fallen Iron, some Wyrrite , and 2 Meteorites.
Before continuing your progress, look to the right to find a High Potion and to the left to find a chest containing the Favor of Wind (Wicked Wheel). Turn around to also find a potion at the bottom.
Use the left or right-hand staircases to reach the central area. You'll need to eliminate a mini-boss. Liche will be able to teleport onto the battlefield and strike you with her scythe. She'll also be able to launch aerial slashes like Benedikta did.
The difficulty of this fight is Liche's position. After destabilizing him once, he'll use a Thresh melee combo. Keep dodging his attacks to defeat this enemy.
Once the fight is over, two paths will unlock, both offering a potion. It doesn't matter which path you choose, as you'll need to use them to eliminate enemies. You must eliminate both to continue.
The right-hand path takes you past Specters, while the left-hand path takes you past Wraiths, fast but fragile spellcasters. Defeat them and interact with the structure in front of you. Once that's done, head for the other path to fight the other battle.
Return to the central area and activate the structure between the two paths. Cross the bridge to reach the door. On the other side, you'll find a High Potion.
Save and move forward to start a cinematic. Go straight ahead and observe the scene. You'll then have to face a Ifrit, the Infernal Eikon.
Ifrit uses Crimson Rush to knock you down. He'll hit you with his foot, scorching the ground around him, and use Vulcan Burst to shoot a burst of flame around Ifrit.
Ifrit jumps a lot in combat and often moves while making a melee attack. Precision dodges, Phoenix Eclipse and counters can help you get closer to Ifrit. Ifrit's weakest point is his head, so take advantage of moments of weakness to attack him. Don't forget to take care of yourself, as Ifrit hits hard.
Break the will Gauge and destabilize Ifrit to win the fight. You'll then begin a new battle against Infernal Shadow.
This enemy is similar to you and will perform the same type of attack as yours. It will charge at you with an attack similar to Phoenix Eclipse. Infernal Shadow will also fire three projectiles at you. If you can dodge his attacks, you can use Heatwave to counter them.
Stagger him completely so that Infernal Shadow becomes more powerful. He'll now use a combo of flaming slashes that are hard to resist if you're hit. She also uses Incinerate to launch a cone of flames at you. Hammer and anvil teleports the Infernal Shadow above you for a powerful downward strike.
Keep dodging his attacks and staggering him again, taking care to remain mobile at all times. After the second stagger, Infernal Shadow will launch columns of fire around the battlefield, an attack that can cost you the fight if you don't keep an eye on the ground and your life level.
After reducing Infernal Shadow's health to around 20%, a cinematic sequence appears. Press L3 and R3 to activate Clive's Limit Break.
Limit Break restores your health during combat and increases your attack power. Your combos are now more powerful, and you can heal the damage inflicted by your opponent.
Continue the fight until your Infernal Shadow health bar is almost empty. You'll then begin a series of Cinematic Clash opportunities to finish the fight.
You'll earn 450 EXP, 180 ability points and 3,200 gils, a Fire Shard, Magicked Ash and the trophy A Burning Truth.
