The Crystal's Curse
In this Final Fantasy XVI walkthrough, we'll explain the full path of the "The Crystal's Curse" quest from the Act I.
When you start this quest, Cid and Jill will join your group. Follow Cid through the door. Go forward to find a ladder on your left. Climb down to find a treasure chest containing 800 gils.
Continue following Cid to meet a group of soldiers. Eliminate them and join Cid in destroying the wooden planks.
Go straight on and you'll find 2 Wyrrite . Progress further to find a Sharp Fangs and 2 Wyrrite a little further on.
Save your game now and prepare for the next tough battle. Follow for Cid to engage soldiers and flying enemies.
Once these enemies have been eliminated, an Imperial Cannonier will appear to attack you. This enemy will start by using Black Powder, which creates explosions. Dodge when you see the ground crack. The Imperial Cannonier will also fire three shots at you; dodging the first two will allow you to counterattack on the third.
The enemy may be using a flamethrower, in which case keep as far away from the flames as possible. Don't counter the flamethrower, as you risk taking too much unnecessary damage. The Imperial Cannonier is not a fast enemy, and hand-to-hand combat using dodges is very effective.
You can easily lower its Will Gauge with Garuda's Eikonic Abilities. Remember also to use your Limit Break to heal damage and inflict quick blows.
Once you've reduced its health the first time, the Imperial Cannonier will come back with new movement. This means he can use a rocket, which propels him forward three times as a charge attack.
Continue your strategy by dodging his attacks more often. This phase is a little more complicated, as this enemy moves a lot more.
Once defeated, you'll get 70 EXP, 110 ability points and 2,000 gils. For items, you can get the accessory The Favor of the Inferno (Ignition), 15 Wyrrite and 15 Steelsilk.
After the scene, open the wooden gate and activate the lever on the right to go down.
Exit the elevator and head left to find a Steelsilk behind a cart. Go right to find a High Potion. Move forward a little to find a Potion on boxes to the left.
Just before entering the tunnel, you'll find a treasure chest containing a meteorite.
Enter the tunnel and look right to find a path with a single Steelsilk. Continue straight ahead to find Akashic Miners. There are many of them, but individually they're not very difficult to defeat.
Eliminate them and head left to break through a wooden barrier. Move forward to pick up the 2 pins of Magicked Ash just before a bridge.
After the scene, keep moving forward to reach a large open area with more Akashic Miners. You'll get a quick tutorial on the Warcry. The Etheric Captains, will use it to become stronger. Eliminate them first to make the fight easier.
After the fight, go left to find 2 gils and a Bloody Hides. Now go right to find a treasure chest containing 60 gilsand 7 Sharp Fangs.
Keep moving forward and pass under the rocks to reach an area with a large door in front of you. Take the Potion to the right and continue right to find another Potion and a Treasure Chest nearby with 10 pieces of Wyrrite.
Turn back to be attacked by a few enemies. Once eliminated, return to the room with the large door and look to the right for a lever to open it.
Go through the door and take the 2 gils on the left. At the far end, you'll find an Akashic Champion to eliminate. This one will be accompanied and you should eliminate the other enemies first. Enemy reinforcements will arrive after a while.
At the end of the battle, move forward to break the wooden planks. Pick up the potion on the right and advance to the end of the path to open a Treasure Chest which contains a Coral Sword. This weapon is more powerful than Invictus, and should be interesting to equip.
Break through the metal grid on the left and progress in the dark. You'll find a S Sharp Fangs on your way, as well as a Potion further on.
After the cinematic, save and head downstairs to meet a group of enemies.
Open the large door and go down the steps. Open the next one and eliminate the enemies. Reinforcements will arrive during the fight, accompanied by a Lich.
Then go down the stairs and pick up the High Potion on your left. Continue down and pick up the Potion at the bottom of the stairs.
It's also a good time to save your game, as a tough enemy looms on the horizon.
Go through the door into a large courtyard. Go straight ahead to start a cinematic. You'll then have to face the Akashic Dragon.
This enemy will hurl a fireball at you, then follow up with a flying charge. The Akashic Dragon's attacks are powerful, and you should be careful to dodge well to save your healing items.
Once this enemy returns to the ground, it will attack with its claws, wings and head. Garuda is effective when the dragon is stationary. Once you've partially staged the dragon, use Deadly Embrace to knock it to the ground. This allows you to strike the dragon's head, its weakest point.
Once the dragon returns to the fight, it will launch a beam of fire. Move away to better dodge this attack. He'll continue with a few fireballs before flying off and swinging his tail vertically.
Once destabilized, always aim for its head and release your Eikonic Abilities and use Limit Break to maximize your damage.
After an initial Destabilization, the Akashic Dragon will fly around the battlefield to use its Cauterization attack, releasing its fire breath. Dodge as best you can to avoid being hit too much.
Then continue attacking to perform a second Destabilization. The dragon will then use the Dragon Dance which will make several fireballs followed by a horizontal and vertical beam of fire. Remember to heal yourself at this stage of the fight, as your enemy doesn't have much life left.
Once eliminated, you'll get 90 EXP, 120 ability points and 3,000 gils after your victory. As for items, you'll be able to receive Bloody Hides, a meteorite and Black Bood.
Step forward to find two potion on the other side. Go forward and up the first staircase, to find a Treasure Chest containing 10 coils of Steelsilk, 10 Bloody Hides, and 10 pins of Magicked Ash. On the right-hand side of the chest, you'll find a Potion.
Climb the stairs to start a cinematic. After a new scene, Revenants will appear and attack you, and you'll have to fight them alone.
A second wave of enemies will come and electricity will appear in the battlefield. Watch out for the circles indicating the lightning zone.
For the third wave of enemies, you'll also have to dodge beams of light and lightning.
You'll then have to perform an intense Cinematic Evasion. Ifrit will then appear to continue the fight against Typhon. Ifrit will then have new combat moves and will be able to fight normally;
Typhoon will attack you with punches that you can dodge with the R1 button. Ifrit can heal himself, but this power is limited to six uses;
After removing around 25% of the enemy's hit points, it will use Unending Clamorwhich surrounds Ifrit with a circle that will make an explosion. Use Wildfire Glide by holding down the rond button, charging towards Typhon to dodge the attack.
Typhoon now has a new cross-sweep movement for melee combat. It will also be able to fire several energy projectiles as well as a beam.
After destabilizing Typhon, you should be close to reducing his hit points to zero. Eliminate him to move on to the second phase of the battle.
You'll now have to fight against Typhon the Transgressor. He'll start the fight by shooting rays at you. Walk instead of using Wildfire Slide to head towards the enemy so you don't get caught in the beam.
Typhon the Transgressor will use the same type of attack as before, the only safe zone is the area behind the enemy. Attack him so that he starts shooting at you with beams, then uses Demon Wall. This attack launches a large wall in your path. Openings will be located on each wall, and you'll need to reach them to stay safe.
This boss will eventually use Catacecaumene, which will launch several types of projectile. At this point, you should only have a few attacks to make before moving on to the final stage. Do an Intense Cinematic Evasion, an Intense Cling, another Intense Cinematic Evasion and another Intense Cling to end the battle.
You get 870 EXP, 200 ability points and 3,500 gils. For items, you can get the The Breath of Fire (Flames of Rebirth) accessory, 25 Sharp Fangs, 20 Steelsilk and 70 Magicked Ash. You'll also get the Trophy Lawless after the cinematic.
