Charles Rookwood's Trial
In this walkthrough for Hogwarts Legacy, we'll give you the complete tutorial for the main quest: Charles Rookwood's Trial.
Join Professor Fig at Rookwood Castle for a chat. The 2 of you must then enter the castle. Attack the enemies in your path with your spells. As you walk towards the entrance, you'll be intercepted by ennemies.
Once the ennemies have been defeated, use the Accio spell to move the crate nearby. Place it at the bottom of the wall so you can jump and climb over it. Continue on your way and you'll find yourself in the castle's outer courtyard. You'll see a cinematic in which Rannrok and Victor Rookwood discuss their knowledge of the Guardians and ancient magic. What's more, Rannrok seems to be after your character.
Then head for the castle entrance. You'll face Serpencendre Executioners, other Warriors of the Faithful and other enemies - defeat them all to progress. Once you've defeated all the enemies, collect the resources on the ground and enter the castle via the stairs. Then jump onto a wooden platform suspended in mid-air. It will break as you land.
- Don't forget to explore to open the chests.
You'll find a large, ancient magic door in the room. To open the door, use your basic throw on the 3 circles hanging on the wall. One to the right of the door, another to your right and the last circle will be hidden behind a pile of wood.
Enter the Rookwood cellar. To your left, you'll find the storeroom where Rannrok's power originated. However, it appears to be empty. Then head for the corridor to the right of the red storeroom, where you'll find Charles Rookwood's portrait.
At the end of your discussion with the portrait, you'll need to start the second test. Go to the traces of ancient magic on the ground and examine them. Move towards the portal that has just appeared.
You'll find yourself in a large room, similar to the first trial. Go straight ahead and take the stairs to the right at the far end of the room. Look for traces of ancient magic on the floor. This will reveal a portal and a cube. Go down the stairs and use the Wingardium Leviosa spell to move the small cube on the left of the room (under the exit platform you're trying to reach) between the 2 platforms (the stairs and the platform on the other side leading to the exit. Then go through the portal as you want to get to the side of the portal where the cube becomes a column. Once through, use the Wingardium Leviosa spell to lift the second cube above the first, then go back through the portal to transform the cubes into a solid pillar you can climb on, then jump to reach the next area.
- It's important to note that you'll need to build up momentum when you jump from the small column to the platform leading to the exit.
Go straight ahead and examine the traces of magic on the floor. This will create a circle on the wall in front of you. When you hit this circle with your basic spell, the portal in the center of the room will turn to the right, creating a new section of the room in which you can find a chest.
Reposition the portal in front of you (by casting a basic spell on the circle) and move the cube to the other side of the portal using the Wingardium Leviosa spell, since it's blocking the path. You can now access the next room via the walkway behind the portal.
You'll find yourself up against a Pensine Protector and other Pensine Sentinels. Simply defeat them with your spells to progress. We recommend that you eliminate the Pensine Sentinels first, as their ranged attacks can take you by surprise and you can easily be overrun. Be careful not to fall outside the circular platform.
Continue on your way and examine the trace of ancient magic on the floor. This action will reveal a new portal and another circle on the wall opposite you (through the portal), use your basic throw on this circle. This will rotate the portal to the right. This reveals a chest that was hidden behind it. Then cross the portal (when it's to the right of you) to find a new section. Looking down to the right, you'll see a platform with a cube resting on it. Use the Wingardium Leviosa spell to move the cube onto the circular platform (it will become a chest which you can open when you pass through the portal the right way).
Don't go through the gate just yet. Before crossing the gate, use your basic throw on the circle to rotate the gate. Since you're on the platform on the right-hand side (and not the central circular platform), the gate will shift, revealing a path on the other side.
As you cross to the left (into the next room), examine the trace of ancient magic on the floor to your right, which will activate a portal in the center of the room and reveal a pillar to your left. Go down to the center of the room and immediately head for the portal in front of you. There will be 2 Thought Protectors in this room, which are invisible/insensitive to damage unless you're on the right side of the portal.
Once you've defeated the 2 Thought Protectors (on either side of the portal), make sure you're on the blue side of the portal (by observing the edges of your screen), then use the Wingardium Leviosa spell on the cube through the portal to pull it towards the red side. Place the cube back where it was on the ledge, then go back through the portal to the blue side, where you'll now see that both the cube-turned-pillar and the platform you're trying to reach will be tangible at the same time. Once you're up on the platform, use your basic throw on the circle hanging on the wall to your right to rotate the platform to the other side and then jump to land in the next room.
In the next room down the stairs and to your left, two Sentinelles de Pensine will be activated. Attack them, then head for the room in front of you, up the stairs and through the door into another circular arena.
When you reach the center, a portal will appear in front of you, and more Pensine Protectors and enemies will appear. Once again, Pensine Protectors and Pensine Sentinels can become invisible if you don't go through the portal.
- Be careful! Avoid the attacks of all invisible enemies as they do a lot of damage, then quickly pass through the portal and eliminate the remaining enemies now that you can see/affect them.
Once all the enemies have been defeated, a final enemy will appear. You'll have to defeat a Pensine Guardian. You'll need to dodge his stomping as well as his attacks, hit the orbs around him with the corresponding colored magic to do more damage, and make sure you dodge at the right moment when he swings his arms up and down, electrifying the whole arena.
Once the Thought Keeper has been defeated, cross the bridge that has just appeared to enter the room containing the thought that holds Charles Rookwood's memories. Approach the Pensine and interact with it to see one of Charles Rookwood's memories.
You'll discover that Isidora will use an unknown form of magic to heal her father. The other teachers don't seem to agree with her approach at all, even though it seems to have worked. Once the cinematic is over, use the portal to return to the Map Room and chat with the portrait of Percival Rackham. You'll then meet Niamh Fitzgerald, the former headmistress of Hogwarts.
At the end of the discussion, talk to Professor Fig. That's how the quest: Charles Rookwood's Trial ends, making way for your next main quest in Hogwarts Legacy: Fire and Vice.
