How to evict a villager
In Animal Crossing: New Horizons, you sometimes come across villagers who don't suit you. Here's a guide to how you can increase the chances of a villager moving.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons is full of nice, sociable, friendly villagers. On the other hand, you may sometimes come across villagers you don't like as much, because you can't always choose them. It's important to note that there's no option to expel a villager in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. However, here are a few tips to increase the chances of a villager moving.
How do you evict a villager naturally?
One of the best ways to make a villager leave of his own accord is to ignore him. Don't talk to them, don't give them gifts, and ignore them when they approach you with an exclamation mark.
Wait to speak to him when you see a thought bubble at the top of his head. At that point, approach the villager as he may be thinking about moving. Tell him to leave, and you'll see him packing his moving boxes the next day.
Travel back in time
You can also make a villager leave by moving time forward in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Go forward 14-15 days and see if the villager on your island is thinking of leaving. If not, repeat this step.
* It's important to note that this method will result in your village being full of weeds and your mailbox being full.
Approach a camper visiting your village
When you have visitors camping in your village, it's possible to persuade them to move in. All you have to do is talk to them until the villager asks you if they should move in.
However, it's important to know that you can NOT decide in advance which villager the visitor will choose to expel. If he evicts the wrong villager, you'll have to reset the game without saving, and repeat this step until the visitor chooses to take the place of the villager you want to see leave.
* In order to use this method, you'll need to have at least 10 villagers, as the visitor will remove one of your 10 villagers already present in your village.
How to evict a villager using an amiibo?
You can evict a villager using amiibo cards. However, you'll have to pay real money. When you buy an amiibo card with real money, open Animal Crossing: New Horizons and call the amiibo to the campsite via the Nook Stop.
When the villager from the amiibo arrives at the campsite, give him all the DIY items he asks for. Repeat this step every day for 3 days and then convince them to move in. In this situation you'll have the option of choosing which villagers to evict, unlike the method above.
Additional note
- Having a bad attitude (hitting with a net, pushing, giving rotten turnips, etc.) towards a particular villager to get them to leave more quickly doesn't always work. On the contrary, it could make the situation worse, since you're still giving them a lot of attention. This solution isn't always recommended, but it's worth a try!
- You'll see a thought bubble on each villager every 14-15 days or so. If you see a bubble on their head, it means they're probably thinking of leaving. Pay attention to this if you want to keep your favorite villagers!
- If you have an event taking place in your village, the villagers won't tend to want to leave. Wait for another day.
- It is possible to talk to Label about a particular villager. However, she has no control over expulsion. This option exists to change a phrase the villager often says, or to change his clothing, for example.
- Thought bubbles on villagers' heads only appear when they are outside their homes.
