In Animal Crossing: New Horizons, two main currencies coexist to enable players to prosper on their island: Bells and Nook Miles. While both are essential to the success and development of the island, they have distinct and complementary functions that are worth exploring. Read our article to understand the difference between Bells and Nook miles.

Bells: The Island's Main Currency

Bells are the traditional currency of the Animal Crossing world. They are used to purchase a variety of items and services from the island's merchants and residents. From decorative items for the home to clothing and furniture, bells are indispensable for personalizing and embellishing your character's living space. It's also useful for paying off debts you receive when you buy your house or make improvements, for example.

The main ways to earn Bells include selling items (fish, insects, shells, fossils, etc.). There's also the Turnip Stock Market (same principle as the stock exchange), which is one of the ways to make lots of bells if you know what you're doing. • Note that if you accumulate more than 99,999 bells in your inventory, the surplus will be deposited in a box in your inventory. We recommend depositing them into your bank account via the Nook Stop terminal inside the Town Hall.

Nook Miles: The Reward for Exploration and Achievement

Unlike bells, Nook miles are an alternative form of currency that rewards players for their active participation in island life. These Nook Miles are earned by completing a variety of tasks and goals, ranging from simple daily actions to more complex, long-term challenges.

Nook Miles can be redeemed for a range of exclusive items at the Nook Stop terminal (located at the Town Hall), including home decor items, clothing, DIY recipes, tickets for trips to mysterious islands and more. These mysterious islands are one of the best ways to collect resources.

Complementarity and Strategic Use

Although Bells and Nook Miles fulfill distinct roles in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, they are complementary and can be used strategically to maximize progress and island development. For example, players can use Bells to purchase essential items while using Nook Miles to acquire exclusive items or unlock important upgrades.

In conclusion, by using these two currencies strategically and combining them effectively, players can create an enriching and rewarding gaming experience, where every action contributes to the growth and beauty of their island.
