A Chance Encounter
In this Final Fantasy XVI walkthrough, we'll explain the full path of the "A Chance Encounter" quest from the Prologue.
After the cinematic, you'll go back 13 years. You'll also get the Eikonic Abilities Scarlet Cyclone and Heatwave. You can upgrade them in the Gear & Eikons tab.
Advance to find a Stoneskin Tonic and pass through the mountain fissure. Continue down to find a Strength Tonic, move forward again to find a Stoneskin Tonic. Before continuing, save your game and then descend to find a Strength Tonic ahead.
Step forward to join your team and start a cinematic. You'll then have to battle Shiva's Dominant. This adversary is able to summon ice spikes around her and move quickly. She can also launch ice projectiles. As she casts her magic, she will surround herself with ice spikes or hurl three projectiles at you. The Dominant can also use her sword in close combat.
Pay no attention to the other enemies and stick to the fight with the Dominant. Normally, your group should deal with the other enemies. When a blue glow surrounds the Dominant, it means she's about to launch a magical attack. You can then easily dodge it.
Decrease your opponent's will Gauge with Magic Burst. Once empty, attack her with your Eikonic Abilities and move away before she comes to her senses. The Dominant will use Blizzaga to throw giant ice boulders around her. Dodge the boulders and retaliate by casting your fire magic from a distance.
After the Blizzaga attack, ice boulders will continue to fall for a few moments. The enemy will begin to summon ice spikes in close combat. Remember to heal your wounds and continue the fight.
This should end the match before she recovers. If it doesn't, she won't have enough hit points left and you'll win the fight after a few more attacks. By winning the fight, depending on your score, you could earn Frozen Tears as well as some Potions and High Potions.
You immediately begin a new battle against other enemies. Don't hesitate to use the healing items you earned during your previous battle. Once the enemies have been eliminated, you must face your ally, Tiamat. This adversary launches blue projectiles while performing sword combos. He can also charge you while avoiding your attacks.
These attacks should be easy to dodge, as they are not necessarily fast. Be careful not to swing your sword when Tiamat is holding his sword in front of him, in which case you'll be vulnerable for a short moment. Preferably, use magic to make him change position.
Tiama will prepare to charge when he throws his sword. During this fight, do plenty of Magic Burst to stun him, and use your Eikonic Abilities as soon as possible.
After the first Stagger, Tiamat uses Enruin to wield a blue energy blade. This weapon will do more damage and allow him to launch projectiles during his combos.
Once the battle is over, you'll get crafting materials like Wyrrite and Meteorite. Take care to keep the materials if you wish to obtain the Gotterdammerung trophy. You'll meet Cid and complete this FF16 main quest.
