Midas River

In this Super Mario RPG Walkthrough, you'll find the complete guide to completing Midas River with all the secret chests.

After defeating the Belome boss, you'll automatically arrive in this new area. This section features two mini-games that will take you down to the bottom of the river. During your descent, you'll be able to pick up a few Coins and Frog Coins. Unfortunately, you won't be able to collect all the coins on your first run.

First descent

As you begin your descent, move tothe right to obtain the first Frog Coin. Then head for the path on the left, where you can pick up the second Frog Coin.

Continue on to reach the cave in the middle of the descent. You'll find 1x Flower in the underground and will be located on the right of the river.

Stay to the right to collect 2 more Frog Coins.

You'll finish the first run with 4x Frog Coins.

Second descent:

For this second descent, take the branch to the left and don't enter the cave. Further down, you'll see a Frog Piece in your path. Now enter the cave just below this room. Advance into the cave to retrieve a Frog Piece.

Leave the cave and turn right to take the last Frog Piece of the route.

Barrel ride

The second mini-game takes you down the river in a barrel. You'll have to jump from one barrel to another at the right moment. Collect the coins as you go, while avoiding the fish jumping out of the water. If you get hit by a fish, you'll lose one of the coins collected along the way.

Once you've reached the bottom of the Midas River, a Toad will offer to exchange the Coins you've earned in your mini-games for Frog Coins. The cost of the exchange will be 60 Coins first, then 80 Coins thereafter. Please note that your coins will be kept between each exchange.

These mini-games can be restarted by paying 30 coins or by returning to the "Kero Sewers" exit. During your first run, you'll also receive a Koopa Carapace from the Toad. You can equip it on Mario from the "Equipment" menu. This weapon will greatly increase your attack stats.
