Riju of Gerudo Town
In this walkthrough for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, we'll give you the complete tutorial for the main quest: Riju of Gerudo Town.
To unlock this main quest, we recommend you stop off at the Kara Kara Bazaar first.
Meet Riju
Once you're ready, head for the Gerudo Desert. Beware, you'll be disoriented by the sandstorms. You won't be able to consult your map. However, it is possible to get a better view when you're high in the air. Simply jump with the Paraglider into the sandstorms and you'll be up in the air.
Start by heading towards the structure (see image below) and move forward. Pick up any resources along the way and continue straight on towards the 2 light jets (they'll light up if you drop a fruit at the foot of a cherry tree near Gerudo Town). You'll soon come to the North Gerudo Ruins. Go straight ahead and turn right to find someone there who seems to be in trouble. It's Riju.
Head towards her to trigger a cinematic in which she asks you to help her get rid of the strange monsters called Gibdo that have started to infiltrate Gerudo Town. Before going on the attack, Riju will ask you to help her strike the dummy in front of her with her lightning. Your aim will be to shoot an arrow at the dummy so that Riju throws her lightning at it. Wait for the circle of electricity to cover the dummy before firing.
Riju will ask you to repeat the process on 3 other dummies, this time firing at the center dummy to hit the other 2 nearby targets. It's important to know that the further away the enemy, the longer it will take Riju to prepare her lightning. Once you've completed the tutorial with Riju, head straight for the Kara Kara Bazaar, as there appears to be an attack by Gibdo. If you have previously completed the Mayatat Shrine, teleport to it to get to the Bazaar more quickly!
Protect the Kara Kara Bazaar
Arriving at the Kara Kara Bazaar, shoot arrows at the Gibdo to electrocute them with Riju's lightning. They are identifiable as small red dots on your map. Make sure you keep Riju alive at all times (you don't want her to be attacked by enemies) and destroy the Gibdo nest, which looks like a pink mushroom, by shooting arrows into the center of the nest when the nest color is bright pink (see image below).
Once all the Gibdo have been eliminated, a cinematic sequence appears in which you see Zelda in the distance. Riju will ask you to join her in Gerudo Town to stop the sandstorms.
To get to Gerudo Town, use the sand tornadoes to get in the air and move faster, while getting a better view of the desert. Cross the dessert and head for the 2 light jets (they'll be lit if you drop a fruit at the foot of a cherry tree near Gerudo Town) to arrive in front of the North Gerudo Ruins.
Advance through the North Gerudo Ruins and you'll find yourself on the Sacred Gerudo Site. Then jump into a sand tornado to project yourself into the air for a better view. You'll be able to see Gerudo Town from above. Head towards it.
Gerudo Town
Enter the Gerudo Town and talk to Riju. She'll tell you that there are 3 Gibdo nests in front of Gerudo Town. To protect Gerudo Town, you'll need to prepare for battle. To do this, enter the throne room and head for the room on the left. There you'll find Padda, who will equip you with arrows, Zonai and more (collect all resources, weapons and open the 3 chests in the room!). Also ask her to barricade a door. This will make it a little more difficult for the Gibdo to enter Gerudo Town through the barricaded entrance, and will give you some time to eliminate the other Gibdo elsewhere before they invade the town.
Then head to the room on the right (opposite to the one you were in) and talk to Captain Teake to draw up a defense plan. She'll ask you where to place a defense unit. We recommend that you place a spear unit in front of the barricade you've set up, to further delay the Gibdo invasion and allow you to defend the other 2 entrances to the city.
When you're ready for battle, simply talk to Riju. Once again, repeat what you did at the Kara Kara Bazaar and shoot arrows at the Gibdo to electrocute them with Riju's lightning. Again, make sure you keep Riju alive at all times (you don't want her to be attacked by enemies) and destroy the Gibdo' nest by shooting arrows into the center of the nest when the nest color is bright pink (see image below). Hurry to eliminate them all before they attack Riju.
Once all the enemies have been eliminated, Riju will ask you to follow her into the underground bunker (which lies just below the throne room) to observe a mural on the wall. Enter the Gerudo Town underground bunker and head to the far end. You'll find Riju in a pool of water at the far end. Talk to her to find out what's written on the fresco. According to her, this message will lead you to The Lighting Temple.
And so the main quest: Riju of Gerudo Town comes to an end, making way for your next main quest in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom - How to get to The Lighting Temple.
